Fingo Festival 15|Features Blaqseed
Blaqseed is an acoustic band which consists of three members Gabriel Chauke(Guitarist), LesegoMoerane (Vocalist) and KaraboMokoena(Rapper) originating from the Vaal Triangle (Vanderbijlpark). It started with Gabriel and Karabo when theywere doing a similar course in Vaal University of Technology in 2010. They use to jam together in Gabriel’s room, until they realized that the fusion of Guitar and Rap needed a vocalist.
That’s when they foundNokuthulaMalabela known as Thuli (Singer and guitarist) and Portia Hlongwane known as Molly (singer), that’s when the music journey began.
They started performing in and around Vaal poetrysessions and music stages such as:
o Uvuko (Vereeniging)
o Balladry Composition (Johannesburg)
o VUT Fresher’s concerts and valentines ball (Vanderbijlpark)
o Back to Back Jazz concert (Soweto)
o Bat Centre (Durban)
o And many more……..
In 2010 after their first stage performance they met Makhosonke El Diego who became a manager, mentor and a teacher;they started working together promoting their music and the name Blaqseed. In early 2011 Thuli left Blaqseed because she was part of another band called Soul Sisters, they continued three of them Karabo, Gabriel and Molly for a fewmonths, the passion and the love never stopped, they continued writing songs travelling until they met LesegoMoerane known as Raven, who became the fourth member, and the music journey continued until 2012 where Molly left Blaqseed because of personal reasons.

The music is themed in love, life and tough situations people find themselves in and how music helps make it easier. The special ingredient is, as Blaqseed members put it, “simply God” and a musically charged attitude aimed at awakening the audience’s spirits.
Once they’re on stage it’s a Blaqseed affair.
